Nepse opens week with 19.85-point loss; turnover drops to Rs 9.1 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index opened on a negative note this week, with the benchmark index shedding 19.85 points to close trading at 2,694.20 points on Sunday.

Although the index posted nominal gains initially, it lost momentum soon after and eventually ended the session 0.73% lower.

The market remained under pressure throughout the session, with selling dominating most of the trading hours. Unit prices of 201 scrips declined during the session, while 50 advanced and nine remained unchanged.

Total turnover dropped to Rs 9.1 billion, compared to Rs 14.56 billion in the previous session, with 22.06 million units traded through 110,728 transactions.

Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 555.24 million worth of shares traded. Next were SY Panel Nepal Ltd and Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 536.49 million and Rs 289.82 million, respectively.

Except for the Trading sub-index, which posted a nominal gain of 0.55%, all trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Hotels & Tourism sub-index, which was down 1.75%. Next were Hydrpower and Investment sub-indices with losses of 1.36% and 0.96%, respectively.
