KATHMANDU: The Federal Parliament Secretariat is holding the election for the position of Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly on April 10.

National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal informed the upper house about the election for the position of vice chairperson on Wednesday.

The position has been lying vacant since the resignation of Urmila Aryal last week.  Aryal, one of the aspirants for the position of National Assembly chairperson, stepped down after Narayan Prasad Dahal from her party was elected to the post.

Chairperson Dahal also instructed Padam Prasad Pandey, the general secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, to publish the election schedule.

Although Maoist Center, CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) had initially reached an understanding to elect UML’s National Assembly member to the position of vice chairperson, leaders of CPN (Unified Socialist), which joined the ruling coalition later on, are claiming that there is an understanding to elect their National Assembly member to the position.
