Murder of two youths: Family, locals protest police inaction

JANAKPURDHAM: Relatives and neighbors of two youths, who were found murdered in Sitamadhi of India recently, have taken to the street to protest police inaction.

They have obstructed vehicular movement at Pidari Chowk in Janakpurdham-9, demanding action against people involved in the murder of Rohit Sah (21) of Janakpurdham-8 and Bishnu Sah (22) of Janakpurdham-13. The two had left for their relative’s place in Bela Parihar 13 days ago where they were abducted.

A few days after the duo went of contact, abductors had called Sah’s family demanding a ransom of Rs 5 million. They had later reduced the demand to Rs 2 million, and instructed them to bring the money to Malangawa border of Sarlahi. But they had suddenly gone out of contact.

Sah’s family members claim that they had informed police about the abduction right after they received a call from the abductors. Mukesh Kumar Sah, the uncle of one of the deceased boy, said police are now saying that they couldn’t launch a search operation on time because nobody reported the incident. “We had informed the police. But they didn’t show any interest,” he added.

Locals participating in the protest say the boys could have been saved had the police taken action in time. Stating that the two boys died due to negligence of the police administration, they have sought the resignation of Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane.
