Commemorative stamp of first Nepali film Aaama issued

KATHMANDU: The poster of Aama, Nepal’s first feature film, has been featured on a commemorative postage stamp.

The Nepal Film Development Board (NFDB) unveiled the stamp during a special event marking its 25th anniversary.

At the event, the Department of Postal Services issued two stamps, each valued at Rs 10, featuring the poster of the film and images of the lead actors from Aama. Released in 1964, Aama is the first Nepali film ever screened. Shiv Shankar Khatri and Bhuwan Chand essayed the main roles in the film directed by Hira Singh Khatri.

Actresses Bhuwan Chand, Chaitya Devi and Basundhara Bhusal, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, NFDB Chairperson Dinesh DC and Department of Postal Services Director General Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to celebrate National Film Day on Asar 15 (June end) every year.

A cabinet meeting held on June 27 took the decision, according to the Nepal Film Development Board.

The decision was announced during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Board in Kathmandu on Monday.
