Deuba faction decides to make all elected representatives convention delegates

KATHMANDU: The dissident faction of the Nepali Congress (NC), led by the party’s former President Sher Bahadur Deuba, has decided to make all elected representatives from the party at various levels its delegates for the 15th general convention.

According to the faction’s Central Election Committee, chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities, municipalities, sub-metropolitan cities and metropolitan cities, and members elected to the seven provincial assemblies, National Assembly and House of Representatives have automatically become convention delegates from their respective electoral constituencies.

NC has 868 elected representatives at different levels. They include 329 chiefs and 300 deputy chiefs in 753 local governments. Similarly, it has 25 members in the National Assembly and 38 in the House of Representatives. The party has 176 members in seven provincial assemblies.

Although these representatives have automatically become convention delegates for the Deuba faction’s general convention, only a fraction of them are believed to be aligned with the faction. Most of them participated in the party’s 15th General Convention, held in Kathmandu on October 5-9.

The Deuba faction is holding its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu on December 7-9.
