KATHMANDU: The Association of Former Ambassadors of Nepal (AFNA) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, injuries, displacement and extensive property damage caused by the recent floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
In a statement, AFNA extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and expressed solidarity with individuals, families and communities affected by the disaster.
The association said its thoughts were particularly with people who have been displaced, separated from their families, deprived of their livelihoods or are still awaiting rescue and urgent assistance.
AFNA appreciated the efforts of the government, security forces, local authorities, humanitarian agencies, volunteers and citizens involved in search, rescue, relief and emergency response operations. The association urged the concerned authorities to give the highest priority to rescuing people who remain stranded and to providing emergency shelter, food, drinking water, medicines and other essential supplies.
It also urged the government to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage and losses caused by the floods and ensure that relief and rehabilitation programmes reach affected people promptly, transparently and equitably.
Calling on political parties, civil society and the public to rise above partisan interests and differences, the association urged them to work together in the spirit of national unity and solidarity.
“In times of national crisis, saving lives and protecting the dignity and welfare of the affected people must be the common objective and responsibility of all,” AFNA said.
