KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Barshaman Pun has termed the latest proposal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on federalism as opportunistic and irrelevant.
Speaking to journalists on the parliament premises on Sunday, RSP’s latest political character has made a mockery of the people’s mandate.
Recalling that RSP had made promises to strengthen provincial governments before the March 5 elections, Pun said the party’s proposal, brought through its recent general convention, to scrap provinces is a betrayal of the people. “There is ideological indifference within the party,” Pun said. “While the party president has expressed commitment to the constitution and federalism, another proposal presented by the vice president calls for scrapping provinces.”
Pun said that while the party is trying to foster a new political culture, the statements and conduct of some of its leaders reflect immaturity and populism.
