KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal has reached New Delhi for a three-day official visit to India at the invitation of his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar.
Khanal was welcomed by Prashant Pise, additional secretary of the External Affairs Ministry of India, upon his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
Khanal will hold an official meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and other high-ranking officials during the visit. “The two sides will discuss matters of mutual interest, with a view to enhancing cooperation across key areas including trade, investment, connectivity, energy and people-to-people ties.
“As part of regular exchange of high-level visits, this visit will further consolidate the enduring and multifaceted bilateral relations between Nepal and India,” it added.
Similarly, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit will help further strengthen the special partnership between India and Nepal.
The two sides are also expected to discuss Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s official visit to India in the near future.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended an invitation to Prime Minister Shah after the latter assumed office in the last week of March. Although Prime Minister Shah has expected the invitation, the dates and details of the visit have not been finalized yet.
