Nepal, China hold counterpart meeting in Dhunche

KATHMANDU: A Nepal–China counterpart meeting was held in Dhunche, Rasuwa, on Saturday.

Rasuwa Chief District Officer Rajesh Panthi led the Nepali delegation in the meeting, while Zhu Zinshui, stationmaster of Jilong Immigration Inspection Station, led the Chinese side

During the discussions, officials from the two countries placed special emphasis on strengthening border security, facilitating trade, enhancing bilateral coordination, controlling cross-border crime, and improving the safety of their respective citizens.

Participating officials said the meeting was productive in further reinforcing the long-standing historical friendship, mutual trust and cooperation between Nepal and China. Both sides appeared positive about measures to make daily life, trade and cross-border movement easier for people living in the Himalayan region.

The two sides also reached an understanding to mobilize their security agencies in a more vigilant and coordinated manner to prevent illegal trade and criminal activities that could occur in border areas.

In particular, positive discussions were held on allowing Nepali drivers from districts outside Rasuwa to travel to Kerung after completing the required procedures. The Chinese signaled that drivers holding valid passports and maintaining good conduct could gradually be granted such facilitation.

Other participants in the meeting included DSP Ashok Thapa, chief of the District Police Office, Rasuwa; the Chief Customs Officer of the Rasuwa Customs Office; as well as heads and representatives of security agencies and government offices based in the district.

According to the District Administration Office, Rasuwa, such coordination meetings are held alternatively in Kerung of China and Rasuwa of Nepal on a regular basis. Such meetings aim to resolve border-related issues, strengthen security coordination and maintain bilateral cooperation.
