KATHMANDU: Revenue collection from land and housing transactions increased by 15.2% over the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Department of Land Management and Archives (DoLMA), revenue from land and housing transactions increased to Rs 43.48 billion between mid-July and mid-May of 2025/26, from Rs 37.74 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
The DoLMA mobilized Rs 6.26 billion in Baishakh (mid-April to mid-May) alone — the highest monthly collection in the current fiscal year so far.
The highest contribution during the month came from registration fees, which generated Rs 3.31 billion in revenue. Capital gains tax (CGT) accounted for Rs 2.55 billion, while service fees contributed Rs 244.06 million.
Under the existing tax provision, a CHT of 7.5% is levied on gains made from property sold within five years of purchase, while those held for five years or more are subject to a 5% CGT.
Among Land Administration Offices (LAOs), the Dillibazar office mobilized the highest revenue of Rs 599.12 million over the first 10 months of the fiscal year. The Lagankhel LAO followed with a revenue of Rs 529.67 million, while the Bhaktapur LAO collected Rs 471.41 million.
In contrast, the Sirdibas LAO of Gorkha mobilized the lowest revenue with a collection of Rs 63,610 during the review period.
The DoLMA also reported a rise in the number of transactions nationwide. A total of 58,950 land and housing transactions, including transactions involving 64 apartment units, were recorded during the month. A total of 52,415 transactions were recorded in the same month of the previous fiscal year.
The LAO Inaruwa in Sunsari registered the highest number of transactions at 2,154 in the review period. The LAO Bhadrapur of Jhapa and the LAO Belbari of Morang were next with total transactions of 2,043 and 1,836, respectively.
