KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has said it will raise its voice in Parliament over the ordinance related to the Constitutional Council issued on Tuesday by President Ramchandra Paudel.
In a meeting of the party’s parliamentary party held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, party President Gagan Kumar Thapa said the party has serious reservations about the ordinance and instructed lawmakers to strongly object to the ordinance in Parliament.
“Our lawmakers will play the necessary role to put pressure on the government to amend the provisions introduced through the ordinance,” Thapa added.
He also accused the government of introducing the ordinance to maintain control of the head of government over constitutional bodies. Thapa argued that the decision on who would be appointed Chief Justice had already been made, and that the law was crafted in a manipulative manner to endorse a name picked from the pocket.
“NC will obstruct any work carried out by the government within the bounds of the Constitution. However, the party will strongly oppose any move that goes against the constitution,” he added.
