KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index rebounded on Monday, gaining 83.33 points to close at 2,760.02, a day after suffering a sharp 105.5-point decline.
The market opened in the green and maintained an upward trajectory for most of the session. Despite some minor intraday fluctuations, the bourse eventually closed 3.11% higher.
With the recovery, the index moved back above the 2,700-point psychological support level within a day. Nepse had slumped to 2,673.97 points on Sunday. Unit prices of four scrips hit the 10% positive circuit during the session, while 10 others posted gains above 9%.
Market breadth remained positive with unit prices of 264 stocks advancing, and only three declining. However, trading activity weakened compared to the previous session. Total turnover fell to Rs 10.92 billion, compared to Rs 12.38 billion a day earlier. A total of 25.15 million units were traded through 124,093 transactions on Monday.
Among individual stocks, Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd logged the highest turnover of Rs 1.123 billion. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and NRN Infrastructure & Development with transactions worth Rs 549.29 million and Rs 481.91 million, respectively.
All sectoral indices ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was up 4.59%. Next were the Finance sub-index and the Development Bank sub-index with gains of 4.03% and 3.63%, respectively.
