Nepse slips 32.09 points after Monday’s whirlwind session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) closed lower on Tuesday following Monday’s immense buying pressure, during which transactions were allowed only briefly as multiple circuit breakers were triggered.

The index slipped 32.08 points to close trading at 2,843.35 points on Monday. The index moved into the red territory right after trading began. Although the benchmark index attempted to recover during the session, it eventually closed 1.11% lower.

Unit prices of 178 scrips declined on Tuesday, while 78 declined and five remained unchanged. Ngadi Group Power Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 1.09 billion traded. Next were Ankhu Khola Jalavidyut Company Ltd and Api Power Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 696.43 million and Rs 616.84 million, respectively.

Total turnover reached Rs 21.50 billion with 52.71 million units traded through 205,611 transactions—the highest since August 27 last year when Rs 25.98 billion worth of shares were traded.

Among sectoral indices, three posted gains while the remaining 10 ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Trading sub-index, which fell by 2.12%. Next were Finance and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices with losses of 2.06% and 1.85%, respectively. Similarly, the Mutual Fund sub-index posted the highest gain of 1.34%.
