KATHMANDU: Shares worth Rs 45.4 billion were traded on the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) this week.

This marks a 35.98% decline from the previous week, when securities worth Rs 70.36 billion had changed hands. Average daily turnover also fell by 35.98% compared to last week to Rs 9 billion, while the number of traded shares was down 29.39% to 110.52 million units. The highest turnover of Rs 11.58 billion was recorded on Thursday.

The benchmark index was down 5.35 points compared to last week. During the week, the Nepse index hit an intra-day high of 2,719.62 points and an intra-day low of 2,659.86 points, eventually closing at 2,708.7 points on Thursday.

Out of 13 trading groups, six ended the week higher, while the remaining seven ended in the red. The Hotels & Tourism sub-index posted the biggest weekly gain of 164.83 points, followed by Non-life Insurance (145.94 points) and Manufacturing & Processing (116.69 points). On the other hand, Microfinance posted the biggest weekly loss of 42.99 points. Life Insurance and Finance sub-indices followed with losses of 37.44 points and 26.31 points, respectively.

Among individual scrips, Kalinchowk Darshan Ltd logged the highest weekly gain of Rs 275.7. The scrip, which opened trading at Rs 802.4 per unit, ended the week at Rs 1,078.1—a gain of 34.36%. Narayani Development Bank and Super Mai Hydropower Ltd followed with gains of 13.28% and 13.25%, respectively.

Conversely, Kalika Power Company Ltd suffered a weekly loss of 9.27% in its share price. The company’s share closed at Rs 543.5 per unit on Friday, compared to Sunday’s opening price of Rs 599. Next were Maya Khola Hydropower Company and Rawa Energy Development Ltd, which saw their share prices fall by 7.8% and 7.43%, respectively, over the week.

Newly listed SY Panel Ltd topped the weekly turnover chart with Rs 2.65 billion worth of shares traded. It was followed by Ankhu Khola Jalavidyut Company Ltd and Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd, with total weekly turnovers of Rs 2.58 billion and Rs 1.71 billion, respectively.
