Complaints received against five candidates: EC

KATHMANDU: Complaints have been registered against five candidates who filed nominations for the House of Representatives elections on Tuesday.

According to the Election Commission (EC) Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, one complaint was filed against Lal Bikram Thapa from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Sunsari-2, Mahdav Kumar Nepal from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) in Rautahat-1, Rajiv Khatri from RSP, and independent candidate Januka Pathak in Bhaktapur-2, and Resham Chaudhary from Nagarik Unmukti Party in Kailali-1.

As per the election program published by the EC, complaints against candidates could be filed between 10 am and 2 pm on Wednesday.

The EC will review the complaints and publish a preliminary list of candidates between 5 pm and 7 pm on Thursday. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers from 10 am to 1 pm on Friday pm. The final list of candidates will be published from 1 pm to 3 pm on the same day.

According to the EC, a total of 3,487 candidates—3,089 men, 396 women, and one person identifying as third gender—have filed nominations for 165 seats under the first-past-the-post system.
