KATHMANDU: The government and the three major political parties have reached an understanding to create a conducive environment for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5
The understanding was reached during a meeting called by President Ram Chandra Paudel at the Office of the President on Tuesday afternoon. Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, and Nepali Communist Party (CPN) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal attended the meeting.
This is the first meeting between PM Karki and top leaders of the three major political parties since she assumed office on September 12 following the Gen Z protests.
According to the President’s press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, the leaders also agreed to hold detailed discussions at the Office of the Prime Minister on how a favorable environment for the elections can be created.
“The election was announced to provide a way forward at a time when the country’s situation had become grave and sensitive. Considering this gravity, it is the sole responsibility of us all to work toward making the election a success,” President Paudel said during the discussion, according to Pokharel.
Stating that the election is the most appropriate option to resolve the country’s current complex situation, the President urged the Prime Minister and top leaders of the three major parties to work together to ensure that the elections are held successfully.
