Only 22 of 76 killed in Gen Z protests were demonstrators, says Army

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army (NA) has stated that only 22 of those killed during the Gen Z protests were demonstrators.

A total of 76 people had died during the protests in Kathmandu and different parts of the country on September 8 and 9.

Organizing a press conference on Friday, the Army said the fatalities included 22 protesters, three police personnel, 10 prisoners and 41 others.

According to the NA, the protests resulted in arson and vandalism at 688 government offices, 259 private residences, 128 business establishments, 198 political party offices and 307 police offices across the country.

The army also reported that 15,588 inmates escaped from prisons across the country during the unrest. According to the army, 8,799 have so far been recaptured or returned.

Similarly, of the 978 weapons looted or lost during the protests, 586 have been recovered so far.
