KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the condition of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, who was taken captive by Hamas after they attacked Israel in October 2023, remains unknown.
Issuing a statement on Monday, the ministry said that Bipin’s name was not included in the list of hostages being released, and therefore his situation is still uncertain.
The ministry released the statement following media reports that Israeli authorities had informed Nepal’s Ambassador to Israel, Dhan Prasad Poudel, and Bipin’s family that Bipin was no longer alive. It also clarified that he has not received any official confirmation regarding his status.
“The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) organized a virtual meeting with Nepal’s Ambassador to Israel, Bipin Joshi’s brother, mother and sister, as well as officials from Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office at 7:30 am (local time) on Monday. During the meeting, it was informed that Bipin Joshi’s name was not included among those being released today, and his condition remains unknown,” the ministry said in the statement.
Ambassador Pandit, however, told media outlets that IDF officials said in the video conference that Bipin was no longer alive.
