KATHMANDU: A dissident faction of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the country’s football governing body, led by Senior Vice President Bir Bahadur Khadka, has demanded the resignation of ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang.
Organizing a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, the group said that Nepali football was collapsing under Nembang’s leadership and urged him to step aside immediately to prevent further damage.
Vice President Birat Jung Shahi and board members Rabindra Chand Thakuri and Rupesh Adhikari were also present in the press conference.
Khadka accused the ANFA president of showing indifference towards the ‘A’Division League** even though clubs are ready for the league. He alleged that the leadership has been negligent in carrying out fundamental responsibilities required for the development of football, has ignored the voices of stakeholders and has failed to maintain institutional transparency.
He further criticized the ANFA leadership for its failure to upgrade the Dasharath Stadium to meet international standards required for hosting international matches.
Khadka warned that if the current leadership continues to act unilaterally, the dissenting group would push for early elections within the football body.
The group also criticized the ANFA leadership for its inability to host international matches and implement programs approved by the general assembly. It also accused the leadership of showing a lack of motivation and support for players, and engaging in non-transparent financial activities.
“If the league is not going to be held and the president refuses to resign, then an early election in ANFA has become necessary. This is the only way left to save Nepali football from further collapse,” Khadka added.
