KATHMANDU: The Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress (NC), has filed a complaint with the Nepal Police against Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) and Sudan Gurung, coordinator of the ‘Hami Nepal’ organisation, alleging their role in the arson and vandalism on September 8 and 9.
The NSU lodged complaints at the district offices of police in Kathmandu and Laitpur, demanding an investigation into the incidents that occurred during the Gen Z protest in Kathmandu Valley and different parts of the country on September 8 and 9.
In its complaint, the NSU has accused Balen and Gurung of inciting students to join the protests, causing damage to national heritage through arson and vandalism, and encouraging looting of public and private property.
NSU Central Working Committee members Manish Jung Thapa, Ashok Singh Bista and Bijay Shah filed the complaint. They have demanded that Balen and Gurung be arrested within 24 hours and that a proper investigation be initiated.
Earlier, Gurung and his supporters had filed a complaint against then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and others, accusing them of suppressing the protests. Following that, the UML-aligned ANNFSU also lodged a complaint against Gurung and the protesting youths.
