KATHMANDU: The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has forwarded a complaint filed against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to the judicial inquiry commission probing the incidents of September 8 and 9.
The complaint, filed under the initiative of Sudan Gurung, director of the non-governmental organisation Hami Nepal, demands the arrest of Oli and Lekhak in connection with the alleged suppression during the recent “Gen Z movement” protests.
According to police, the complaint has been sent to the judicial inquiry commission led by former Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki for further investigation.
SP Pawan Bhattarai, the spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said the complaint had been referred to the commission for additional inquiry.
“We received a complaint related to the incidents of September 8 and 9. But since the matter falls outside the police’s jurisdiction, the complaint has been forwarded to the commission,” Bhattarai told Himal Press. “Since a judicial commission has been formed to investigate those incidents, we are not authorized to conduct a parallel investigation. Hence, the complaint was not registered.”
Meanwhile, the ANNFSU, the student wing affiliated with the CPN-UML, has also submitted a complaint regarding arson, vandalism and the killing of a police officer that occurred during the Gen Z protests at the District Police Range, Kathmandu. The complaint has been filed against Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and Hami Nepal director, Sudan Gurung.
Police, however, are yet to register the complaint, according to ANNFSU leaders.
