Ministers Ghising, Aryal assess damage to Supreme Court building

KATHMANDU: Two ministers inspected the Supreme Court building, which was damaged by fire during the Gen-Z protests, on Wednesday.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kul Man Ghising, who is also looking after Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development portfolios, and Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal visited the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon to assess the extent of the damage.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Ghising said the arson and vandalism caused significant damage to the physical infrastructure of the apex court. He added that a further decision would be taken after assessing the damage.

“The construction of the new Supreme Court building is expected to be completed within four to five months. Full services of the apex court will resume from the building,” Ghising said.

Ghising added that security personnel have been mobilized to retrieve and manage the items destroyed in the fire.

The Supreme Court has been providing services from tents set up within its premises.
