KATHMANDU: The government has decided to use unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in disaster response operations.
An agreement to this end was signed between the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and the Nepal Drone Association at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak said the association will provide drone support free of cost during disaster response efforts in coordination with NDRRMA. “Drones can be deployed for search and rescue operations, and even for delivering relief materials when necessary,” he added.
Lekhak also said that the government is currently using advanced technologies for disaster response.
