Cabinet approves seven foreign visits of ministers, other officials

KATHMANDU: The cabinet has approved seven foreign visits for ministers and high-ranking officials, despite the commitment to reducing expenses by limiting non-essential international travel.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, made public the decisions taken by Monday’s cabinet on Wednesday.

The approved trips, spanning the United States, China, Norway and Ethiopia, are tied to international engagements aimed at fostering cooperation, sustainable development and global health initiatives.

Given below is the breakdown of foreign trips approved by the cabinet meeting held on Monday:

  • NPC Vice Chairperson Prof Dr Shivaraj Adhikari is traveling to New York, USA, on July 14–23, 2025, to participate in the High-level Mechanism for Sustainable Development. The visit is expected to advance Nepal’s agenda on sustainable growth and global cooperation.
  • Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey is visiting China on July 21–27 to mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations between Nepal and China.
  • Minister of Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi is traveling to Norway on July 25–30, 2025, to attend the ‘Norway Strengthen Cooperation’ event.
  • Forest and Environment Secretary Rajendra Prasad Mishra is visiting China from July 21 to August 1, 2025, to participate in a Regional Workshop on Nuclear Security Response Capability Development for Borders and Ports, aimed at enhancing regional security frameworks.
  • NPC Member Jaya Bahadur Tandan is attending the Second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Ethiopia from July 27–29 to discuss global food security and Nepal’s contributions to sustainable agriculture.
  • Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung is visiting Shanghai, China, on July 26–28, 2025, to attend the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
  • Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel is traveling to Beijing, China, on July 24–25 to participate in the Global Health Forum 2025.
