KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed objection to news reports and allegations circulating in the media and on social media targeting the party and its leadership.
In a statement on Monday, the secretariat of party President Gagan Kumar Thapa claimed that a deliberate campaign was underway to spread misinformation against the opposition party to divert public attention from the government’s recent activities.
Dismissing the allegations as baseless and lacking factual evidence, the secretariat urged the public not to form opinions based on unverified information.
The NC also insisted that the legitimacy of its leadership and decision-making process had already been established through decisions of the Election Commission and the courts.
“The NC’s institutional processes had been further consolidated by its recently concluded 15th general convention, held in accordance with the Constitution, prevailing laws, the party statute and an order of the Supreme Court following a special general convention conducted under the party statute and applicable laws,” it added.
Meanwhile, the NC has maintained that all issues involving intermediaries and related cases must be investigated impartially, thoroughly and on the basis of evidence.
“Anyone found guilty through the investigation should be brought to justice,” NC said. “The party expresses its willingness to cooperate with the government in the process.”
The NC also raised serious concerns over the selective release of documents like factual details and statements bearing the Nepal Police seal.
“Making such materials public could affect the investigation and raise suspicions that attempts were being made to conceal or destroy evidence,” it added
Reiterating its commitment to democracy, civil liberties, people’s rights and the rule of law, the NC said it would not shy away from any impartial investigation.
