Bomb did explode at Alam’s house that day: Victim

KATHMANDU: Following the acquittal of Nepali Congress (NC) leader Mohammad Aftab Alam in a case involving the alleged burning of people alive after a bomb blast, an individual claiming to be an eyewitness claimed that he has been denied justice.

Gaurishankar Ram Chamar (43) of Sitamarthi in India’s Bihar state, expressed disappointment over the court’s decision to clear Alam of all charges. Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, Chamar said he was at Alam’s house on April 9, 2008, to collect wages when a bomb exploded.

Showing scars on his body, Chamar claimed that he was seriously injured in the blast. While he did not directly accuse Alam of detonating the bomb, he insisted that the explosion occurred at Alam’s house. “The court’s verdict is unjust to victims like me,” he added.

While he did not directly accuse Alam of detonating the bomb, he insisted the explosion occurred at Alam’s house.

The Birgunj bench of the Janakpur High Court acquitted Alam on May 28, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to support the allegations that people were burned alive in the kiln.
The bench also ruled that the explosion itself could not be conclusively verified.
