SURKHET: Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet has presented a budget of Rs 4.38 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26.
Presenting the details of income and expenditures for the next fiscal year on Tuesday, Deputy Mayor Nilkantha Khanal said the municipality expects to receive Rs 242.4 million from federal equalisation grants, Rs 2.20 billion from conditional federal grants and Rs 205.79 million through federal revenue sharing. He added that the provincial government is expected to contribute Rs 33.45 million in equalisation grants and Rs 376.13 million in conditional grants.
The municipality has projected Rs 150 million in revenue from house, land registration and entertainment taxes, while it expects to raise Rs 25 million from various service fees. Internal revenue is estimated at Rs 516.35 million. An additional Rs 412.78 million is expected from the carryover balance and bank deposits of ongoing projects from the current fiscal year, while social security grants are projected to contribute Rs 400 million.
Khanal also added that projects and programs worth Rs 400 million have been proposed for approval in coordination with development partners and non-governmental organisations.
The municipality has earmarked Rs 326.5 million for salaries, allowances and administrative operations, while another Rs 116 million has been allocated for drinking water, good governance, and infrastructure promotion programmes, including the Bheri Pumping Project. Likewise, Rs 192.8 million has been set aside for ward-level plans and programs.
