KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director, Hitendra Dev Shakya, has attributed Thursday evening’s power failure in different parts of the country to technical issues.
Speaking at a press meet held at the NEA’s Syuchatar Office on Friday, Shakya explained power supply was affected after strong winds damaged transmission lines. “A technical issue in the 400 kV double-circuit Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line on Thursday evening disrupted power supply to Kathmandu and other areas,” Shakya said in the press meet. “The temporary halt in power imports from India through this line caused outages, creating a misconception among the public about the return of load-shedding.”
The NEA has firmly denied any possibility of load-shedding returning.
“We are finding a long-term solution to these technical issues. It may take some time,” he added.
According to Shakya, the current entry generation stands at around 1,400 MW, while peak demand is at around 2,000 MW. NEA is meeting this shortfall through imports from India.
