KATHMANDU: Different media outlets on Thursday carried news of Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma attempting Mt Everest, the tallest peak in the world, this spring . The Department of Tourism has confirmed that Sharma has obtained a permit to climb Mt Everest.
However, Sharma has said that he might not make the summit attempt this time, citing a lack of preparation. “I am at the Everest Base Camp training for the final summit push. Having already climbed Lobuche Peak at 6,145 meters, I meet the criteria to attempt Everest, and I have the necessary permit. So, it’s not entirely wrong if someone assumes I am climbing soon,” Sharma wrote in a social media post. “However, desire alone doesn’t conquer Everest. It requires specific training and time.”
Sharma said he lacks sufficient time and the full training needed for the Everest summit. “But I am training, and this preparation will help if I face the final challenge (Everest summit bid), or even to climb slightly higher than Lobuche. That’s certainly possible,” he added.
