
KATHMANDU: Details of the damage caused by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter around Bhairavkunda in Sindhupalchok, have started to emerge.
The Assistant Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchowk, Ganesh Nepali, informed Himal Press that the earthquake caused minor damage to some houses and injured one prisoner.
Sangbo Tamang (33) from Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-5, who was in Sindhupalchok prison, was injured when he ran after the earthquake. According to Nepali, Tamang is currently receiving treatment at District Hospital, Chautara.
Nepali said the process of collecting details about the damage caused by the earthquake has begun. “The details of the damage are being collected in coordination with the municipality and ward office,” he added.
The earthquake also caused minor damage to the barrack building of the Kodari Area Police Office. Further details of the damage are expected. Nepali added that security agencies have been put on standby for rescue operations.
The earthquake also triggered a landslide at Tushare cliff in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.
