KATHMANDU: A four-member investigation committee has been formed to study the charge sheet filed by the Chitwan District Government Attorney’s Office against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Laichhane and others after the office decided not to charge Lamichhane on organized crime and money laundering.
A charge sheet was filed against 32 individuals, including Lamichhane, for misappropriation of funds from Sahara Chitwan Multi-Purpose Cooperative on Tuesday. Twenty, including Lamichhane, have been charged with cooperative fraud, while the remaining 12 have been charged with organized crime and money laundering.
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) formed the four-member committee to review the charge sheet, realizing that the accusations appear flawed. The committee is led by Deputy Attorney General Gopal Prasad Rijal and includes OAG Spokesperson Joint Attorney General Surya Raj Dahal, Senior Government Attorney from Hetauda High Court Government Attorney’s Office Ishwari Prasad Dhakal as members; and Deputy Attorney General Rudra Prasad Acharya as Member Secretary.
According to Spokesperson Dahal, the committee was formed because the charge sheet filed by the Chitwan Government Attorney’s Office appears to have flaws.
Earlier, cases of organized crime and money laundering were filed against Lamichhane in three other courts. However, only a fraud case has been filed against Lamichhane in the Chitwan District Court.
Meanwhile, the OAG has transferred the District Government Attorney of Chitwan, Shanti Prasad Luitel, to the OAG for investigation.
