JUMLA: The Kanakasundari Rural Municipality of Jumla has started providing scholarships for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) study.
The rural municipality chair, Damodar Acharya, informed that the municipality has formulated a procedure to bear 50% of the total MMBS study cost to one student of the rural municipality.
Since last year, Printa Hamal, a resident of Kanakasundari-5, has been pursuing an MBBS at Nepalgunj Medical College.
The total cost of the MBBS study is around Rs 4.6 million. The rural municipality has provided a scholarship of Rs 2.3 million to Printa.
According to Netra Bahadur Khatri, the information officer of the rural municipality, the students, who receive scholarships for medical education, are required to serve the rural municipality for two years after completing their studies.
Similarly, the rural municipality has also provided a scholarship of Rs 100,000 to Kalpana Budha of Kanakasundari-3 for her MBBS studies at Kist Medical College in Lalitpur.
Moreover, Bivek Baduwal from Baduwalbada in Kanakasundari-5, is pursuing a BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) degree at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. The rural municipality has also provided a scholarship of Rs 100,000 to Baduwal, according to Khatri.
