KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to release Durga Prasai, who is in police custody for investigation into a case of cybercrime.
Hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Durga’s son Nirajan, a single bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut took the decision on Monday.
Nirajan had named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Minister for Home Affairs, and the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police as defendants in the petition.
The bench ordered the defendants to provide a written clarification within 15 days, explaining why Prasai needs to be kept in police custody.
Police arrested Prasai on Sunday for an investigation into an offense under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006.
