KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on a writ petition filed by former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and former Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka demanding a halt on all processes related to the party’s 15th General Convention.
A full bench comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi, Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Meghraj Pokharel issued the order on Thursday.
Deuba and Khadka had filed the petition seeking an order to stop all the processes related to the party’s 15th General Convention scheduled to be held in Kathmandu for October 2-5.
The latest order has cleared the way for the party to proceed with preparations for the 15th General Convention.
The apex court on Wednesday had dismissed a separate writ petition, ruling that there was no need to overturn the Election Commission’s decision of April 17.
The joint bench ruled that since the petition itself had been dismissed without issuing any order or directive, there was no prima facie basis for issuing an interim order.
The hearing on the Supreme Court’s show-cause order, issued earlier at the request of the party establishment in a dispute over the Nepali Congress’ official status, is yet to take place.
