KATHMANDU: Bagmati Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel has stepped down.
Jamkattel made the announcement during his address to the Bagmati Province Assembly on Sunday. He was scheduled to table a motion of vote of confidence in the province assembly meeting. Speaker Bhuvan Kumar Pathak gave time to Jamkattel to table his motion of confidence in the meeting of the province assembly on Sunday. However, instead of tabling the motion, Jamkattel announced his resignation.
The CPN (Maoist Center) leader then submitted his resignation to Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma.
Jamkattel’s government fell into minority after his coalition partner, CPN-UML, withdrew its support following the formation of a new coalition with Nepali Congress (NC) in the federal government.
NC and UML will now form a new government in the province. As per the understanding reached between the two parties, NC parliamentary party leader Bahadur Singh Lama will become Bagmati’s new Chief Minister.
