KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested the general public to report any instances of government land encroachment or unauthorized registration as private property to local authorities.
“Those involved in the misuse or illegal registration of government land as private property will be prosecuted under the prevailing laws,” the home ministry said in a statement issued on Thursday.
The ministry also said that it has instructed all district administration offices to collaborate with relevant authorities and take legal action under existing laws against individuals and entities found encroaching upon government land or falsely registering it as private property. It has also asked the local administration to forward details of such cases to the center.
The ministry’s statement came a few days after the Special Court convicted dozens of people, including government officials, for transferring ownership of government land in Lalita Niwas in the name of individuals by creating fake tenants.
