KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has condemned police suppression of a peaceful protest of teachers of Simraungadh Municipality of Bara.
A total of 190 teachers of 21 community and religious schools in the municipality, who have been denied salary for the past six months, had been protesting at the entrance of the municipality.
Police used force to disperse them on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one individual, Laxmi Mukhiya of Nansagara Dhat in Simraungadh Municipality-1, and injuring several others.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, Nepali Congress has asked the government to investigate the incident, punish the culprits, provide free treatment to the injured, and offer compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
