33 kg of gold smuggled from China via Dolakha: Police

KATHMANDU: A total of 33 kilograms of gold has been smuggled into the country from China via Dolakha district, police say.

A team of Nepal Police, which is investigating 11 kg of gold smuggled into the country via Dolakha district on September 27, concluded that 33 kg of gold entered the country illegally from China between November 2022 and September 27, 2023.

“The group which smuggled 11 kg of gold, which we impounded in September, is found to have brought a total of 33 kg of gold into the country since November last year,” said DSP Deepak Khadka, chief of District Police Office, Dolakha.

Police have submitted their investigation report to the District Government Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu. The office will now study the report submitted by the police and file charge sheets against the accused. Police have suggested the district attorney’s office to make 27 individuals, including two Chinese nationals, defendants in the case. While 15 of them are in police custody, 12 are on the run.
