ITAHARI Newly-appointed Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Kedar Karki, is seeking a vote of confidence in the Koshi Province Assembly this Wednesday.
Karki assumed the position on Saturday, in accordance with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. He was formally sworn in on Sunday.
Chief Minister Karki submitted a letter to the Province Assembly Secretariat on Sunday indicating his intention to seek a vote of confidence on Wednesday.
Karki, a member of the Nepali Congress (NC) in the provincial assembly, became the chief minister of the eastern-most province of the country by forming a coalition with the backing of CPN-UML after his party decided to form the government under the leadership of Indra Angbo of CPN (Maoist Center).
As Karki’s appointment is the last option for government formation as outlined in the constitution, the province will be forced to hold mid-term elections if he fails to secure a vote of confidence on Wednesday.
