JANAKPURDHAM: The Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) has called on the government to promptly bring Nepal Citizenship Regulations.
The party made the during a press conference organized in Janakpurdham on Tuesday to unveil the decisions taken during the expanded meeting of its Madhesh Province Committee.
Jitendra Sonal, the chairman of the LSP’s Madhesh Province Committee and also a member of the Madhesh Province Assembly, said the government must bring the regulations to enable individuals to obtain citizenship in the name of their mothers. “While children born to parents with citizenship by birth are now easily receiving citizenship certificates under the new Nepal Citizenship Act, the regulations for obtaining citizenship through the mother’s name are still lacking,” he added.
In another context, Sonal welcomed legislation related to usury but said disorderly practices occurring in the name of enforcing the law should stop. Sonal also said that the party had decided to expand its presence to the polling booth level of each ward.
On the occasion, LSP leaders said the provincial governments were not becoming in the absence of essential federal laws. They said that the meeting decided to urge the government to expedite the enactment of these laws.
Furthermore, the party called upon both provincial and federal governments to take concrete measures to prevent the destruction of the Chure range and save Madhesh.
