35 kg gold seizure: DSP Thag Bahadur KC fired

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has dismissed DSP Thag Bahadur KC from service after an investigation concluded that he seized 35 kg of gold from a Butwal-based trader and kept it in his possession.

The Nepal Police Headquarters had recommended the home ministry to dismiss KC from service about a fortnight ago.

Nepal Police Spokesperson Kuber Kadayt has confirmed that KC has been expelled from the police service. “He has been dismissed by the ministry as recommended by the police headquarters. He is free to challenge the decision in the court,” Kadayat added.

KC had confiscated the gold while serving as the chief of the Area Police Office in Butwal. After the trader filed a complaint against him, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested him and he was suspended immediately pending investigation. After conducting an internal investigation, the police headquarters found KC guilty.

As part of the investigation, police raided KC’s apartment and recovered 35 kg of gold and a check for Rs 1.8 million. Investigation revealed that the trader was attempting to retrieve the 35 kg of gold by paying KC Rs 2.5 million.
