KATHMANDU: The Finance Committee of the House of Representatives has directed to directed the government to resume the process of licensing new stockbrokers.
The committee took the decision after holding a meeting with officials of the Securities Board of Nepal (Sebon) and stock brokers on Tuesday. Earlier on June 14, the committee had instructed the government to halt the licensing process.
Sebon started the process to license new stockbrokers on September 18. After evaluating the applications, Sebon had given letters of intent to 43 new companies to carry out securities brokerage business. Among them, Sebon has licensed 18 applicants that have the infrastructure required by Sebon to provide stock brokerage services.
Seven of them had already installed the required infrastructure and paid fees to Nepse to access its transaction management system.
