Sebon chair Bhatta sworn in

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (Sebon), Gopal Prasad Bhatta, has expressed commitment to work sincerely for the development of the capital market.

Speaking after he was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Minister for Finance Swarnim Wagle at the Ministry of Finance on Monday morning, Bhatta pledged to fully utilize his knowledge, experience and skills to serve the interests of market investors and support the government’s goal of economic growth. “I will continue working for market development by implementing studies and recommendations made at various times for capital market reforms,” he added.

The Cabinet meeting held on June 19 appointed Bhatta to the position. However, his swearing-in was delayed as Minister Wagle was busy with his party’s general convention last week.

After the oath-taking ceremony, Minister Wagle instructed Bhatta to work honestly to protect the investments and interests of stock investors. He also directed Bhatta to avoid any temptation or inducement while carrying out his duties.

The finance minister said the new chairperson should pay special attention to protecting investors’ investments and creating an environment for economic growth through capital mobilization in the market. “The government will provide all kinds of support. Create an environment where we can achieve economic growth through capital mobilization,” he added.

Wagle also instructed Bhatta to submit plans for capital market reforms covering daily, weekly, monthly, six-month and one-year targets.
