KATHMANDU: Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Saroj Kumar Yadav, has received a vote of confidence in the Madhesh Province Assembly.
In the voting held on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yadav secured 103 votes. None voted against him. Of the 105 present in the provincial assembly, Speaker and Deputy Speaker didn’t participate in voting. Two province assembly members, Urmila Devi Singh of Nagarik Unmukti Party and independent member Keshav Raya, weren’t present on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Yadav took the floor test after the CPN-UML withdrew its support to the Madhesh Province Government. Surprisingly, UML, which withdrew support from Yadav’s government a month ago, also gave a vote of confidence to Yadav.
Dipendra Thakur of UML, Kumar Kanta Jha of Nepali Congress, Lalbabu Raut of Janata Samajbadi Party, Chandan Singh of Janamat Party, Bimala nsari of Nepal Sanghiya Samajbadi Party, Kanchan Bichchha of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and independent assembly members Anuruddha Prasad Singh and Pramot Jayaswal said from the rostrum that they would support Chief Minister Yadav’s proposal seeking a vote of confidence.
JSP, UML and Nagarik Unmukti Party had formed the government in the province with the support of fringe parties on January 11. However, UML withdrew its support to Yadav’s government after a new coalition of Maoist, Nepali Congress and Janata Samajbadi Party was formed at the center.
Yadav is the parliament partyleader of JSP.
