KATHMANDU: The Mountain Clean-up Campaign 2023, which commenced on March 28 and concluded on June 5, has successfully achieved its objectives of cleaning Mount Everest, Lhotse, Annapurna, and Baruntse.
The campaign aimed to collect 35,000 kg of garbage from these mountains, and the teams involved in the initiative surpassed this target by collecting a total of 35,708 kg of waste, according to a statement issued by Nepal Army.
While the biodegradable waste was handed over to the respective local bodies for safe disposal, the remaining waste was entrusted to the waste management company, Creative Ventures Pvt Ltd. The effort to clean these iconic mountains highlights the importance of environmental preservation and sustainable tourism practices, the statement dded.
During the Flag In Ceremony held at the Nepal Army Headquarters to mark the conclusion of the campaign, Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma expressed his gratitude to government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and various individuals and organizations that played a direct or indirect role in the success of the Mountain Cleain-up Campaign 2023.
Sharma also said that the campaign serves as an example of the Nepali Army’s commitment to environmental protection.
