Three Star climbs to second position beating Sankata 3-0

KATHMANDU: Three Star Club defeated Sankata Club 3-0 in the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division National League at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Sunday.

A brace by Ajayi Martins and an injury-time goal by veteran striker Santosh Sahukhala helped Three Star register its sixth win in the league.

Although Three Star mounted pressure on Sankata from the very beginning of the match, it had to wait until the 42nd minute to take the lead. Martins scored from outside the box utilizing a pass by Anil Maharjan. Martins scored his and his team’s second in the 46th minute. Laken Limbu headed Peter Segun’s freekick toward Martins whose header found the back of Sankata’s net.

Martins had an opportunity to get a hat trick. Three Star was awarded a penalty in the 50th minute after Kuldeep Karki handled the ball while controlling Aditya Sahakya’s shot. But Martins shot wide from the spot.

Veteran striker Sahukala scored his team’s third in the eighth minute of the second half injury time as he connected Mahendra Karki’s low cross.

Sankata had few chances to score. But Three Star goalie Mohammad Taha made some beautiful saves to earn his fourth clean sheet in the league.

With this victory, Three Star climbed to second in the league with 21 points from 11 games. Sankata is eight with 23 points from 11 games.
