KATHAMNDU: Church Boys United logged third straight victory in the Martyr’s Memorial National ‘A’ Division League, defeating Himalayan Sherpa Club 1-0 at the Dasharath Stadium on Friday.
Ashish Chaudhary scored the only goal of the match. Chaudhary controlled a long pass of Arik Bista and scored a beautiful goal for the top flight debutants in the 20th minute.
Both teams spurned opportunities to score. Bista’s strike was cleared by Himalayan defender Amrit Shrestha near the goal line in the 5th minute. Ashish Chapagain had a chance to give Church Boys lead one minute later, but his header went above the bar.
Himalayan’s Satyam Sharma had an opportunity to level score in the 37th minute, but his freekick hit the woodwork.
In the second half, Chaudhary failed to double his side’s lead when he was through on goal in the 65th minutes, but he failed to as beat Himalayan goalie Bishwas Chaudhary.
With this victory, Church Boys has collected nine points from three games and sits at the top of the table. It defeated 2-1 Nepal Police Club in its first match of the league. Similarly, it handed fellow debutants Khumaltar Club a 3-1 defeat in its second match of the league.
This is Himalayan’s first defeat in the league. It has four points after three games.
Three Star defeats FC Khumaltar
Three Star Club earned its first victory in the league as it defeated top flight debutant FC Khumaltar 2-0 at ANFA Complex, Satdobato, on Friday.
Nigerian striker Ajayi Martins scored both goals for Three Star in the second half. He scored his first goal in the 54th minute and double his and his team tally in the 87th minute.
Three Star opened its league campaign with a defeat against Nepal APF Club, but shared spoils with Friends Club in its second match. On the other hand, this is Khumaltar’s second straight defeat. It opened the league campaign with a 1-0 win against Friends Club. It, however, was defeated by Church Boys United in its second match.
Three Star has four points from three matches, while Khumaltar has three points from three matches.
