Restricted zones declared as parties prepare to name Province 1

ITAHARI: The District Administration Office in Morang has prohibited activities like  meetings, processions, rallies and other protest programs in certain areas of Biratnagar. The decision was taken as a precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents as the Province 1 Assembly prepares to give the easternmost province its official name.

Most of the parties in the province assembly are said to have agreed to name the province as ‘Koshi Province’. A proposal for the same has already been tabled in the province assembly. However, some fringe parties in the province assembly have tabled a proposal to name the province as ‘Kirant-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha’.

The restricted areas include Devkota Chowk to Koshi Hospital Chowk, the surroundings of the District Administration Office, Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, and the Chief Minister’s residence in Biratnagar. These restrictions will be effective from 3 pm on Wednesday until further notice.
