KATHMANDU: Aircraft flying above 10,000 feet in the Nepali airspace will now be able to provide inflight Internet and mobile telephone services.
Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) Wednesday brought Issuing Interim Directives related to Inflight Communication Services (IFC) to facilitate the use of inflight Internet and mobile services in the Nepali airspace. Such services, however, cannot be sued during take-offs and landings.
According to the NTA, airline companies can provide services by seeking the NTA’s approval. The NTA has put in place a separate permission system for Nepali and foreign carriers.
Airlines can apply for permission at NTA by specifying types of service, frequency to be used, technology, satellite and earth station details, and architecture or block diagram of the services. Similarly, they also have to furnish the profile of the IFC service provider and the contract reached with it.
