KATHMANDU: A meeting of six political parties held at CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence on Sunday decided to form the new government under the leadership of CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Dahal had walked away from the ruling coalition meeting earlier in the day after Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba refused to allow him lead the government first.
At Balkot, Dahal first held talks with Oli and before leaders of UML, Maoist, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajbadi Party and Janamat Party.
These six parties have 166 seats in the House of Representatives.
While Deuba and Dahal had agreed to lead the government by turns, consensus couldn’t be reached as both wanted to lead the government first.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has given parties until 5 pm on Sunday to make claim for formation of government.
